SUMMARY:PAAR-Net Bridges Generations and Disciplines at International Gathering in Vilnius
DESCRIPTION:From March 31st to April 3rd\, 2025\, PAAR-net brought together researchers\, practitioners\, and community stakeholders in Vilnius\, Lithuania\, for a dynamic and inspiring week of learning\, collaboration\, and innovation. Hosted at Mykolas Romeris University\, the events marked two major milestones for the network: the 2nd Training School on Participatory Co-Creation Methods and the II. International Knowledge Exchange Event (IKEE). \nTraining School: Participatory Co-Creation in Action \nOver three days\, early-career researchers and professionals participated in an intensive Training School focused on participatory approaches with older adults. Sessions covered topics from co-design in cognitive health to citizen science\, digital literacy\, and ethical frameworks for working with vulnerable groups. Led by experts the school emphasized hands-on learning and reflection on inclusive research practices. \nHighlights included: \n\nCase-based exercises on building participatory action.\nInsights into intergenerational climate action and digital empowerment.\nInteractive training on tools developed through initiatives like AFECO and DigitalScouts.\n\nInternational Knowledge Exchange Event: Research Beyond Boundaries \nThe IKEE\, held on April 2–3\, expanded on the themes of the Training School with a rich program of keynote talks\, World Café sessions\, and stakeholder panels. Under the theme “Collaboration in Practice: Technology and Innovation Research Beyond Boundaries\,” participants explored how older adults can be engaged as co-creators and active agents in research and innovation. \nKey moments included: \n\nWorld Cafe discussions on topics such as urban design\, AI accessibility\, and digital citizenship.\nThe Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI) Forum\, showcasing mobility experiences within PAAR-net.\nPanels featuring researchers\, policymakers\, and community leaders on engaging older adults in policy and design processes.\n\nSpecial thanks were extended to the organizing team at Mykolas Romeris University for their warm welcome and exceptional hosting. \nHybrid and Inclusive \nBoth events embraced a hybrid format\, allowing for broad participation across Europe and beyond. PAAR-net’s commitment to inclusivity was further demonstrated in sessions addressing gender equality\, local knowledge exchange (in Lithuanian)\, and community-driven innovation. \nThe week in Vilnius reinforced PAAR-net’s mission: to foster participatory\, interdisciplinary\, and transnational collaboration that amplifies the voices of older adults and creates meaningful\, sustainable social impact.

SUMMARY:PAAR-Net Symposia at IAGG 2026: Advancing Participatory Research with Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:PAAR-Net Symposia at IAGG 2026: Advancing Participatory Research with Older Adults \nPAAR-Net is pleased to announce that two symposia developed within the network have been accepted for presentation at the 23rd World Congress of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG 2026) in Amsterdam. This is an important achievement for the Action\, as it provides an international platform to showcase the collaborative work of PAAR-Net members and to further advance participatory approaches with older adults across research\, policy\, and practice. \nAs one of the major global events in the field of ageing and gerontology\, IAGG offers a valuable opportunity for dialogue\, exchange\, and visibility. The acceptance of these two symposia highlights the strength of PAAR-Net’s transnational and interdisciplinary collaborations\, as well as the growing relevance of participatory research in addressing key social\, ethical\, and methodological questions in later life. The accepted sessions focus on both the conceptual foundations of participatory research and its application in areas such as care\, social innovation\, and inequalities. \nSymposium 1 \nEthics and Methodologies of Participatory Research with Older Adults \nDate: 5 July 2026 \nTime: 14:30–16:00 \nLocation: Emerald Room & Lounge \nFormat: Hybrid session \nChairs: \nProf. Anna Urbaniak\, Jagiellonian University\, Kraków\, Poland \nTamar Yellon\, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Israel \nThis symposium addresses the ethical\, conceptual\, and methodological foundations of participatory research with older adults. Participatory approaches have increasingly been recognised as transformative within ageing studies because they challenge traditional hierarchies in knowledge production and place older adults’ perspectives\, agency\, and lived experiences at the centre of the research process. At the same time\, participatory practices remain diverse and fragmented\, with different understandings of what participation means\, how ethical quality should be assessed\, and how co-research standards can be developed across settings. \nThe symposium brings together a set of contributions that examine these questions from complementary angles. It explores conceptual diversity in participatory work with older adults\, ethical and quality standards in transnational contexts\, the development of ethical criteria through Delphi methodology\, reflexivity in participatory research processes\, and practical tools for supporting the full and meaningful involvement of older adults. \nContributions \nParticipatory research with older adults: the example of Older Adult Co-creators \nAnnette Bilfeldt (Roskilde University\, Denmark) \nClaudio Bolzman (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland\, Switzerland) \nQuality and ethical standards in participatory research with older adults – a transnational perspective of older co-creators \nIveta Cirule (Project Net\, Latvia) \nThibauld Moulaert (Université Grenoble Alpes\, France) \nMatthias Drilling (ZHAW School of Social Work\, Switzerland) \nNilufer Korkmaz (Akdeniz University\, Turkey) \nTamar Yellon (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Israel) \nIrena Zemaitaityte (Mykolas Romeris University\, Lithuania) \nEthical Quality Criteria for Older Adult Participatory Practice: A Delphi Study \nMehmet Korkmaz (Yozgat Bozok University\, Turkey) \nAntoine Langeard (Université de Caen Normandie\, France) \nİlknur Aydın Avci (Ondokuz Mayıs University\, Turkey) \nJolanta Pivorienė (Mykolas Romeris University\, Lithuania) \nDavide Lucantoni (Polytechnic University of Marche\, Italy) \nTamar Yellon (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, Israel) \nRodrigo Serrat (University of Barcelona\, Spain) \nGražina Rapolienė (Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences\, Lithuania) \nAna Patricia Hilario (Universidade de Lisboa\, Portugal) \nKübra Yenel (Manisa Celal Bayar University\, Turkey) \nBarbara Groot (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam\, Netherlands) \nParticipatory Research with Older Adults: Twisting the Reflexive Rubik’s Cube \nSandra Staudacher (University of Basel\, Switzerland) \nNora Peduzzi (University of Basel\, Switzerland) \nKatja Jungo (University of Basel\, Switzerland) \nThibauld Moulaert (Université Grenoble Alpes\, France) \nAnna Urbaniak (Jagiellonian University\, Poland) \nCarlo Fabian (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland\, Switzerland) \nBarbara Groot-Sluijs (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam\, Netherlands) \nHeidi Kaspar (Bern University of Applied Sciences\, Switzerland) \nTools to support the full and meaningful involvement of older adults in participatory research \nIsabelle Tournier (Université de Montpellier Paul-Valéry\, France) \nTereza Menšíková (Masaryk University\, Czech Republic) \nSarah Campbell (Manchester Metropolitan University\, United Kingdom) \nDiane Seddon (Bangor University\, United Kingdom) \nSymposium 2 \nParticipation\, Care\, and Social Innovation Across Borders \nDate: 6 July 2026 \nTime: 17:15–18:45 \nLocation: G108 \nType: Symposium \nChairs: \nProf. Anna Urbaniak\, Jagiellonian University\, Kraków\, Poland \nAnnette Bilfeldt\, Roskilde University\, Denmark \nOlder adults’ lived experiences are profoundly shaped by migration\, family change\, and welfare systems. This symposium explores how participatory research can illuminate these complexities and contribute to more inclusive and responsive approaches in care and social innovation. \nBringing together contributions from diverse geographical and social contexts\, the session examines co-creation\, care transitions\, transnational family dynamics\, and sustainability in later life. Through participatory ethnography\, co-production\, and narrative-based research\, it highlights both the agency of older adults and the structural inequalities they encounter. \nContributions \nCo-creating with older adults: Social innovation and transnational knowledge exchange among creative actors in Portugal\, UK and Denmark \nJohn Andersen (Roskilde University\, Denmark) \nAnnette Bilfeldt (Roskilde University\, Denmark) \nSarah Campbell (Manchester Metropolitan University\, United Kingdom) \nMário Rui André (Lisbon City of All Ages\, Portugal) \nArlind Reuter (Lund University\, Sweden) \nMichael Dorph Jensen (Municipality of Gladsaxe\, Denmark) \nAgeing in Place\, Caring at a Distance: Lived Realities of Stay-Behind Parents \nĽubica Voľanská (Slovak Academy of Sciences\, Slovakia) \nSoňa G.
