Isabelle Tournier , Grantee of Short Term Scientific Mission

Bio:
I am an Associate Professor of Neuropsychology at Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier (France). My work examines how people adapt and thrive in later life, with a particular focus on social participation, everyday routines, non-pharmacological interventions, and the stigma linked to ageing and dementia.
Grant supported actions and initiatives:
My three-week research visit to Manchester Metropolitan University, hosted by Sarah Campbell, aimed to explore innovative tools and methods that can strengthen the participation of older adults in research. Particular attention was given to groups often excluded because of physical, psychological, or cognitive challenges. I engaged with key stakeholders, researchers, and co-researchers to exchange expertise, discover existing toolkits, and learn more about creative and art-based methods. These exchanges also laid the groundwork for future contributions to WG1 “Health, Care, and Support” activities.
Testimonial:
This STSM was a genuinely transformative experience. It provided me with first-hand exposure to the UK’s strong tradition of participatory research and allowed me to reflect on how similar approaches could be adapted and implemented in other contexts and countries. As a WG1 co-leader, the knowledge and contacts I gained will be invaluable in driving future collaborations and shaping research agendas. On a personal level, this visit expanded my perspective, introducing me to concepts such as creative health, which directly resonate with my ongoing projects and will inspire new research directions.
