Mirza Emirhafizović, Grantee of Short Term Scientific Mission

Bio:
I am an Associate Professor at the University of Sarajevo (Faculty of Political Sciences). My academic work focuses on demography and urban–rural sociology, with a particular interest in spatial inequalities and community development.
Grant supported actions and initiatives:
My STSM primarily focused on the role of NGOs in enhancing the quality of life for older adults through inclusive participatory approaches, with particular attention to diversity and marginalized groups. Given that Athens is the capital of Greece, NGO-driven projects aimed at (co)creating an age-friendly city or advocating for targeted policy responses have a significant impact on local communities.
Testimonial:
Thanks to the excellent support of my host, Eva Grigoriadou (URBANA, Athens), the STSM was successfully carried out as planned. URBANA’s experience in community-based initiatives—such as the project Athens: A City for All Ages, implemented in the diverse neighbourhood of Kypseli—provided valuable insight into participatory work with older adults. The mission deepened my understanding of challenges such as participants’ lack of trust in prior efforts and limited institutional support. In that context, we also discussed the possibility of co-authoring a paper or book chapter focusing on the role of NGOs in urban settings. I truly appreciate the support of CA PAAR-net for enabling this meaningful professional experience.
