Rodrigo Serrat, Grantee of Virtual Mobility

Bio:
Rodrigo Serrat, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cognition, Development, and Educational Psychology at the University of Barcelona, Spain. His research focuses on social and civic participation in later life, with particular attention to issues of diversity and inclusion in various contexts, including local and national policymaking, volunteering and political organisations, seniors’ interest groups, and aged-care facilities.
Grant supported actions and initiatives:
I received a Virtual Mobility (VM) grant to develop a protocol for a scoping review examining the ethical aspects described in the scientific literature on participatory research approaches involving older adults. As participatory methods gain increasing prominence in ageing research, it is essential to ensure that these approaches are implemented in ethically sound ways. This scoping review aims to map how ethical considerations are identified, addressed, and reported in existing studies, thereby contributing to the development of quality standards in this area. The scoping review protocol has been registered on the Open Science Framework (OSF) (https://osf.io/mr89x) and has already been submitted for publication to JBI Evidence Synthesis (https://journals.lww.com/jbisrir/pages/default.aspx).
Testimonial:
The Virtual Mobility (VM) grant provided a valuable opportunity to foster collaboration among researchers across Europe in developing the protocol for this scoping review. It enabled the active involvement of 14 researchers, all members of Working Group 4 (WG4) of the COST Action PAAR-net. This grant proved to be a powerful means of strengthening trans-European collaboration within PAAR-net, enhancing research capacity, and advancing the aims of the Action.
